Bombing of Australia in World War II

Some other towns along Australia's north coast were bombed, but Darwin was by far the most significant and the only one to suffer major damage and/or loss of life.

Other targets of Japanese bombing included Broome (Western Australia), Townsville and Mossman (both in Queensland).

Darwin wasn't actually a city at the time; it was granted city status in 1959.
